Top Surf Beach Towns In Ireland
I was not expecting to visit such cool surf towns when I travelled to Ireland but I was pleasantly surprised. From the chill vibes and the countless opportunities for beginners and experienced surfers to enjoy the waves, Ireland is home to some great beach towns. Here are some of the top surf beach towns in Ireland.
Lahinch, County Clare
When we first pulled into Lahinch, I was so impressed. Not only is the view of the ocean incredible, the town is full of cute shops, art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and surf schools. You can easily walk to Lahinch Beach from town and is a popular spot for people to surf or watch the surfers.

Strandhill, County Sligo
Strandhill is another top surf town in Ireland and home to the National Surf Centre. The waves are great for all levels and the town has plenty of coffee shops and restaurants to enjoy after a day in the waves. Strandhill is also known for its seaweed baths. You can experience this in Strandhill at Voya Seaweed Baths.
Easkey, County Sligo
If you’re a more experienced surfer, Easkey Beach, might be right up your alley. Easkey is home to the Irish Surfing Association and bigger waves perfect for seasoned surfers.
Mullaghmore, County Sligo
Mullaghmore is a village close to the Donegal border that’s another great spot for surfing in Ireland. Mullaghmore Beach is a best for beginner surfers and Mullaghmore Head is known for bigger waves and is even considered a big wave surfing destination.

Bundoran, County Donegal
Another popular surf town in Ireland is Bundoran. Bundoran is actually considered the Surf Capital of Ireland and is a great place to visit for surfers and non-surfers alike. There are lots of surf schools if you’re looking for some lessons. There are many places to go surfing in Bundoran including spots perfect for beginners and other popular waves like ‘The Peak’ which is recommended only for advanced surfers.
Tramore, County Waterford
Tramore is another popular surfing beach town in Ireland. It’s perfect for beginners and experienced surfers and has a few surf schools to get lessons or rent surf boards from.
